Tips for Volunteers
- Check out the organization you are interested in by scheduling an informational interview. You can see your work environment first hand, meet the boss and ensure that their expectations are reasonable. Any organization should allow you to come in and meet them before making a commitment. You may wish to bring along a parent or trusted adult for the first visit.
- If you have any questions about an organization, ask them for reference information from some of their other volunteers. This way you can talk with someone who has volunteered previously to see if they think it's a good place to be.
- Consider the career connections of a volunteer experience. Many employers appreciate hiring employees who have given back to their community in a meaningful way. Students who are looking to add experiences to their resume to find related employment opportunities can always use volunteerism as a means to an end.
- Be sure to get the required community service form filled out and turned in.
- Have fun, meet some other people who share the same passions and make a difference!
